Meet Cheryl and sidekick Patrick

 

Hello!  My name is Cheryl owner of Latchkey Pet Care Service. Over the years, I have had the pleasure of sharing my home with many different pets from dogs and cats to gerbils, birds, hamsters, guinea pigs and a wide assortment of fish. I have also had the opportunity to work with horses, one of my real passions. Like most people, I have found myself in situations where I needed to find someone to take care of many of these pets, whether it was because of an impending vacation, or just for a day or weekend. I have spent countless hours, as many of you have, transporting dogs, cats, and cages of birds to and from various family members homes who were willing to take them or to boarding kennels. During these excursions I often thought to myself how nice it would be to have someone come into my home to take care of my little friends while I was away which would mean a whole lot less stress for both me and them. So, after having finished the one year Georgian College Animal Care Foundation Skills program here in Barrie back in 2010, I decided to look into how I could offer such a service to pet owners who often find themselves in similar situations. After doing a lot of research, and talking to pet owners themselves I realized at that time that there were not many services out there that catered to pets in their own familiar home environments. Especially senior dogs and cats and puppies that need more frequent potty breaks during the day and can become quite stressed if left on their own for hours at a time. In this day and age, managing day to day living can be stressful enough, between homes, jobs, and taking care of children and, in many cases, aging parents, it can become quite a juggling act.
